During the week of November 14th, I conducted an official mission to Turkey. During the mission, I requested visits with many detainees held for reasons related to their exercise of the freedom of expression. Although I was able to visit several, the government denied me a visit with Asli Erdoğan, one of the most prominent novelists and essayists in Turkey today, who is held in the Bakirkoy Prison in Istanbul. Through her lawyer, she sent me the following letter:
